A. No. This is a very commonly held myth! Only 2 things are mandatory for voting:Your name should be there in the list of registered voters i.e. in electoral roll or voter list of your polling boothYou should carry an approved identity proof document.If you are issued with a voter ID card, you have to compulsorily carry it on the day of voting as an identity proof. If you do not possess a voter ID card, you can carry any one of the approved identity proof documents on Election Day.

Q. What is Part No.? How do I find it?
A.A part no. is a section of the electoral roll of your constituency that relates to your polling station. Filling your part no. helps expedite the process.You can find your part no. on the back of the voter id card of a person voting in your locality. It is the number before the '/' at the bottom. Refer this sample. Alternately, you can with their permission run asearch of their Voter ID no. (located at top left on the back of voter id card - Refer this sample) on the respective state elections website and make a note of the part no. from the result generated.
Q. I don't know my Assembly Constituency. Where can I check?
A.You can refer this document to find your constituency. However, to be sure about your Assembly Constituency, we advise you to confirm with someone who votes in your neighbourhood.
Q. Can a person living on rent register as a voter? How?
A.Yes. You can register for the electoral roll at the address you are staying. You will need to attach a documentary proof of residence of your current place of stay.
Q. I don't have an address proof document in my name. Can I still register to vote?
A.Yes, you can still register to vote. The address proof document is only required for the BLO (Booth Level Officer) to come and verify your residence status. Therefore it only needs to have current residing address.You can use an address proof document in the name of your parents, relatives, friends etc. with whom you are staying. During address verification, the person whose name appears on the address proof document will have to confirm that you are staying at the same address.

A.A copy of any one of the following documents can be attached as a proof of Age/Date of Birth:-Birth certificate issued by a Municipal Authorities or district office of the Registrar of Births & Deaths or Baptism certificate; orBirth certificate from the school (Govt. / Recognized) last attended by the applicant or any other recognized educational institution; orIf a person in class 10 or more pass, he should give a copy of the marksheet of class 10, if it contains date of birth as a proof of date of birth; orMark sheet of class 8 if it contains date of birth; orMark sheet of class 5 if it contains date of birth; orIndian Passport; orPAN card; orDriving License; orAadhar letter issued by UIDAI

A.A copy of any of the following documents should be attached as a proof of ordinary residence:Bank / Kisaan / Current Pass Book; orRation Card; orPassport; orDriving License; orIncome Tax Assessment Order; orLatest rent agreement; orLatest Water / Telephone / Electricity / Gas Connection Bill for that address, either in the name of the applicant or that of his / her immediate relation like parents etc. ; orAny post / letter / mail delivered through Indian Postal Department in the applicant's name at the address of ordinary residence.
Q. I have registered for inclusion in the voter list online. What happens after that?
A.The Booth Level Officer for your area or his authorized representative shall visit you at the residence that you have given and will do the following:Confirm that you actually reside at the address mentionedVerify your photograph with you in personObtain your signature to the downloaded application of your application, (which the BLO will bring with him.)Take the proof of residence from you (in case you have not uploaded it)Take the proof of age from you (in case you have not uploaded it)
Q. Is voter registration a one-time exercise?
A.Yes. However, whenever you change your place of residence, you must get your name on voter list shifted as well.
Q. I am a student studying outside my native city / place of permanent residence. Can I register to vote from my college?
A.Yes. As a student, you can register from your college even if you are studying outside your native city / place of permanent residence. If you are residing in a hostel and do not have an ordinary address proof document, you will have to get aStudent Declaration Form signed by your college dean/principal/registrar and submit it along with your voter registration form.You are also allowed to register from your parent's place of residence; however you cannot register at more than one place at the same time.
Q. Can I be enrolled at more than one place?
A.No, you cannot be enrolled as a voter in more than one place in the same constituency or in more than one constituency.
Q. If I am working and living in Delhi, can I be a voter in my native village?
A.Yes, however, you would be able to vote in your native village only. If you are working in Delhi and residing there , you are eligible to be enrolled in Delhi.
