Now Birth, death certificates available online in Bangalore

You can now go online to get birth and death certificates from the BBMP. It  would enable procurement of birth certificates signed digitally from hospitals registered with it on the same day a child is born.
"In case of death certificates, the person's relatives can collect it three days after he passes away,"
Each certificate is pre-printed with a serial number, state and central government emblems, a 24-digit security code and BBMP emblem watermark to prevent misuse.
Online registration available on the BBMP website http://bbmp.gov.in/forms,  was earlier limited to the civic agency,  it has now been extended to hospitals."The hospitals can now access the site and enter the details through the unique password given to them. The details entered are verified and the event is registered immediately at BBMP registration centres," adding that these centres will send the certificates to the hospitals so they can issue it to the family before they leave the hospital.
The BBMP has provided 1,480 private hospitals with the unique password and also trained its staff.
The online registration system was launched on January 1, 2010 using software developed by the National Informatics Centre. Registration of births and deaths done within 21 days of the event is free of cost. From 21 to 30 days after the event, the Medical Officer Health, BBMP will certify it for a fine of Rs 50.
The Palike's announcement comes after some private hospitals like Manipal Hospital, MS Ramaiah Hospital, Sagar used it on a pilot basis.
From February 1, all hospitals coming under Palike limits will provide certificates using the new facility. "BBMP is the first to introduce birth and death certificates with digital signature. There is a registration centre in each assembly constituency. Five major hospitals --Vanivilas Women and Children Hospital , Victoria hospital, Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, Ghousia Hospital and KC General Hospital -- have also been declared as registration centres," adding that about 1.6 lakh births and 50,000 lakh deaths are registered every year.

What is Direct Benefit Transfer of LPG (DBTL) scheme

Direct Benefit Transfer of LPG (DBTL) scheme
LPG is a clean fuel and hence the Government of India wanted to popularize the use of this fuel by subsidizing LPG for domestic use making it affordable for the consumer. However, due to LPG being subsidized, there is dual pricing in the market which has lead to unscrupulous elements misusing subsidized LPG for other than domestic purposes.
Government of India launched the Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL) Scheme in 291 districts covering over 9 crore consumers.
The scheme has been launched in six phases
under the scheme Customers will have to pay the market price for the cylinder and the subsidy amount will be transferred to their bank account. Effectively, the government wants to provide your benefit in your account. which means subsidy directly reaches the intended beneficiary as the amount is credited in his bank account.
Once the scheme is launched in the district, customers who have not completed formalities for being cash transfer compliant will get 3 months to complete the formalities. During this period they will get cylinders at the subsidized price. But if they do not complete formalities to become Cash Transfer compliant (CTC) within the grace period, they will continue to get cylinders but they will have to pay the non subsidised price (market price) for the cylinder.

What needs to be done by the customer?
The customer needs to do the following:
1. Obtain the Aadhaar number
2. Get his Aadhaar number linked to his consumer number
3. Also link his Aadhaar number to his bank account

How it works?
The Government notifies the districts for the launch of DBTL scheme. The customers in the DBTL districts need to be Cash Transfer compliant (CTC) i.e. the customer has to obtain an Aadhaar number, get the Aadhaar linked to the bank account and also to his LPG consumer number.
On launch of the scheme, all Cash Transfer Compliant Customers will get a fixed advance amount when they book cylinder for the first time after the scheme is launched, presently this amount is Rs. 435/-. This advance is given so that the Customer does not have difficulty in paying for the cylinder at market price. This advance amount remains with the consumer till he surrenders the connection. The amount is recovered from the consumer at the time of surrender of connection.
On delivery of the cylinder, the consumer will also get the actual subsidy for that cylinder upto the capped quota of cylinders (which includes cylinders delivered to the consumer at subsidised price during the financial year). VAT applicable if any, will have to be borne by the consumer.
For details about banks listed on Aadhaar Payment Bridge, status of linkage of Aadhaar to your bank account and LPG consumer number, frequently asked questions about the scheme, please visit the following website: http://www.petroleum.nic.in/dbtl/

Aadhaar number is not required to avail LPG cylinders at non-subsidized rate. LPG consumers not desirous of availing subsidy on LPG are not required to furnish their Aadhaar numbers.

Kejriwal halves Delhi power tariff

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday gave a New Year's gift to Delhiites by slashing the power tariffs of 28 lakh households by 50 per cent, partially meeting the poll promise of his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).The monthly electricity bills of households which use up to 400 units may be reduced by half from January to March, as the government will pay half their bills. However, households consuming more than 400 units per month will have to pay the entire bill amount.
After the government’s subsidy, the new rates will be about
Rs 1.95 per unit, against the current Rs 3.90 per unit for the slab of 0-200 units.
For a slab of 201-400 units, the rates will be Rs 2.90 per unit, against the current rate of Rs 5.50 per unit.
About six lakh households will not benefit from the populist move.

want to know about Lokpal Bill

Parliament passed the crucial Lokpal Bill on 18.12.13 wednesday with the Lok Sabha adopting the measure as amended by the Rajya Sabha after a short discussion.
Following are the salient features of the amended Lokpal Bill.
1. Lokayuktas: The new bill mandates states to set up Lokayuktas within 365 days. States have the freedom to determine the nature and type of Lokayukta. The old bill said the law shall be applicable to states only if they give consent to its application. The old bill gave power to the central government to appoint state Lokayuktas while the new draft gives this power to the states.
2. Constitution of Lokpal: The Lokpal will consist of a chairperson and a maximum of eight members, of which fifty percent shall be judicial members. Fifty percent members of Lokpal shall be from among SC, ST, OBCs, minorities and women. The older version said the chairperson shall be the Chief Justice of India or a present or former judge of the Supreme Court or a non-judicial member with specified qualifications (chief justice or a judge of a high court).
3. Selection of Lokpal: The selection committee will have Prime Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker, leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha and the Chief Justice of India. A fifth member of the selection committee for selection of Lokpal under the category of "eminent jurist" may be nominated by the President on the basis of recommendation of the first four members of the selection committee. In the old bill, selection of the fifth person was left entirely to the President.
4. Religious bodies and trust: The new bill includes societies and trusts that collect public money, receive funding from foreign sources, and have an income level above a certain threshold, it excludes bodies creating endowments for or performing religious or charitable functions. The old bill expanded definition of public servant by bringing societies and trusts which receive donations from the public (over a specified annual income) and, organisations which receive foreign donations (over Rs 10 lakh a year) within the purview of the Lokpal.
5. Prosecution: In the new version, before taking a decision on filing a chargesheet in a case upon consideration of the investigation report, the Lokpal may authorise its own prosecution wing or the concerned investigating agency to initiate prosecution in special courts.Under the old bill, prosecution of the case could be done only by the prosecution wing of the Lokpal.
6. Central Bureau of Investigation: For independence of the CBI, in the new bill a directorate of prosecution will be formed. Appointment of the director of prosecution will be on the recommendation of the Central Vigilance Commissioner.Transfer of officers of CBI investigating cases referred by Lokpal will be only with the approval of Lokpal who will also have superintendence over CBI in relation to Lokpal referred cases.
7. Hearing: The new bill says a government servant will get a hearing before a decision is taken by the Lokpal.
8. Prime Minister: The Prime Minister will be under the purview of the Lokpal with subject matter exclusions and specific process for handling complaints against the Prime Minister.
9. Investigation: Inquiry has to be completed within 60 days and investigation to be completed within six months. Lokpal shall order an investigation only after hearing the public servant.Inquiry against the prime minister has to be held in-camera and approved by two-thirds of the full bench of the Lokpal.
